My New Music; Cool Britannia or a Titanic Load of Bullocks?
So I've totally been on a new music kick for the past month and as any of you that have known me for any length of time have come to realize, I love forcing my horrible music on anyone who is unfortunate enough to come into contact with me. One word of warning I've been going heavy on the British stuff lately so I hope you like accents.
So with out further delay here are my top twenty new favorite bands for 07
20)Malajube - so they're a french Canadian jam band, I'm not completely sold on their sound yet but I love their music videos. Check out the video for Le Jus de Citron. Hear them HERE
19)The Arcade Fire - ok i know these guys have been around for quite a while but i still listen to them all the time so they make the list. For those that don't know them The Arcade Fire is another Canadian indie band (this time with English lyrics) They have a unique kinda mellow style with some very cool haunting vocals. Site HERE
18)Amplifico - I stumbled across these guys a few moths ago. It's hard to find a good band with a female lead singer and they have an excellent one. They have really great vocals and I love the mix of piano and rock guitar Check out their site there's a bunch of demos, listen to the song Here We Are that's probably their best. Their Site is HERE
17)Tokyo Police Club- One of my roommates started talking about these guys a month or two ago. They have a very upbeat indie grunge pop kinda sound. You'll love the pace of the music it's very high energy. Here's their myspace page HERE
16)The Subways- The thing that's so great about The Subways is how heavy they are, it's really hard find a good heavy rock band. I don't want metal but i do want something a little crunchier than Savage Garden ( not that there's anything wrong with Savage Garden, my apologies to a certain fan out there). Anyway they're a little too main stream to make top 15 but still good, Site Here
15)The Real McKenzies- Very cool band from Nova Scotia, just think of them as the Scottish version of the Dropkick Murphys. Listen HERE
14) Asobi Seksu- This band has totally turned into a guilty pleasure for me. There's no denying it they're strait up indie pop but I love the Japanese lyrics. Check the out HERE
13)The Rakes- All the reviews that I've seen call them an indie rock band but they are as punk as they come. I love their song Strasbourg its such an old school British punk song. Their site is HERE
12)Babyshambles- They're a band that has been around a while but the fact that they're out of England and that they are neither The Beatles nor Oasis means most people don't know them. Site HERE
11)Voxtrot- These guys have a very 60's rock kind of sound. Listen to their song Raised by Wolves. Their website is HERE
10) Hockey Night- The cool thing about Hockey Night is the Fact that they have two drummers. I love the sound especially in the song For Guys Only. HERE is their myspace page
9)The Pigeon Detectives- Another one of those new English rock bands good guitars but the background vocals get a little old. Don't Know How to Say Goodbye is a great song though. Check them out HERE
8)Wolf Parade- they're kinda like The Arcade Fire with a little less art and a lot more rock. I love the wining vocals. Listen HERE
7)Gogol Bordello- Two Words: Gypsy Punks. very cool stuff. I love it. Check them out HERE
6)The Librtines- These guys may have already broken up, the lead singer formed Babyshambles last year but I still prefer this line up. Listen HERE
5)Peter, Bjorn, and John- I've only heard a few of their songs but I've loved all of them. They have a very trendy sound and I love the whistling in some of the songs Plus they're from Sweden. They have a myspace page HERE
4) Ok so maybe I miscounted when I started this I only have 19 new bands. On with the countdown!
3)Rocco DeLuca and the Burden- I make it a point not to listen to music i hear on television but in this case i made a exception. I figure being in a "Rockumentary" with Kefer Sutherland actually makes you less popular so they need all the help they can get. Plus DOBRO guitars have a ridiculously cool sound. Listen to their song Swing Low. Their site is HERE
2) Kasabian- Kasbabian plays a really cool mix of Brittrock, Electronica, with a little hip hop thrown in. It's such an original sound. Their song Processed Beats is defiantly my favorite song at the moment. Listen HERE
1) Little Man Tate- By far my new favorite band; the best way describe them is to say that they are exactly what the Arctic Monkeys should have been. They have really great videos, my favorite is Party at Boothys ( Watch it HERE) The Band is about to release their first CD this month and although they haven't ventured far from their home in Sheffield England while touring don't be surprised to see them in the States in the next year or two, my bet is they're going to be big. Check out their Site HERE
So there you have it my top 20, I mean top 19 bands for 07, hope you like them. And may god have mercy on my tone deaf soul
peace out yo
